Health Equity Works (HEW) is a new communications campaign initiative created to elevate the work of nonprofits and advocacy organizations to advance a positive national narrative around health equity. TOA is hosting the initiative in collaboration with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Position Summary:
The Communications & Partnerships Manager will lead the development and implementation of comprehensive media and partnership strategies to advance HEW's mission. This role will build and nurture strategic relationships with partner organizations while overseeing media relations and rapid response efforts. Working closely with the Media Research Associate, this position will transform research findings into compelling narratives and provide technical support to partner organizations.

The Communications & Partnerships Manager will lead the development and implementation of comprehensive media and partnership strategies to advance HEW's mission. This role will build and nurture strategic relationships with partner organizations while overseeing media relations and rapid response efforts. Working closely with the Media Research Associate, this position will transform research findings into compelling narratives and provide technical support to partner organizations.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute an integrated communications and partnership strategy that amplifies HEW's impact and builds coalition power.
- Design and implement a partner engagement framework to identify, evaluate, and cultivate strategic relationships with advocacy organizations, community groups, and health equity stakeholders.
- Create systems for regular partner communication, feedback collection, and collaborative decision-making.
- Manage media relations and build relationships with journalists to enhance partner thought leadership opportunities.
- Develop toolkits, guides, and resources to support partners in implementing effective communications and media strategies.
- Provide ongoing coaching and technical assistance to help partners strengthen their communications capacity.
- Lead regular learning sessions and communities of practice to share best practices and information flow among partners.
- Lead coalition rapid response efforts on emerging health equity issues, coordinating with partners to amplify collective impact.
- Create high-quality written materials including reports, press releases, and advocacy documents.
- Establish measurement frameworks to track collective impact.
- Represent HEW in coalition spaces and partner convenings.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field, preferably in a public affairs or advocacy setting.
- Demonstrated track record of developing and maintaining strategic partnerships.
- Experience with rapid response communications and crisis management.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a track record of producing impactful communication materials.
- Ability to translate complex research and data into clear, engaging narratives.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in crisis communications and rapid response strategies is essential.

- Deep understanding of health equity landscape and key stakeholders.
- Passion for advancing health equity and commitment to social justice.
