The Washington DC based Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH), is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, dedicated to improving the health of people and that of the planet. With over 200 institutional members in over 40 countries, it is one of the world’s largest academic based global health organizations. CUGH (www.cugh.org) is looking for an experienced Operations Manager to organize and oversee its daily operations. This person will ensure that our business is well-coordinated and productive by managing its procedures, finances and overseeing staff.
The area of responsibility for this role is wide and requires a thorough knowledge of various company processes. He/She must be an excellent leader who can manage personnel, finances and operations effectively to support CUGH’s mission and achieve the organization’s strategic goals.

Responsibilities
Top 5 Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily organizational operations and procedures
- Manage organizational finances and budgets
- Supervise, evaluate, motivate and support staff
- Coordinate grant management and ensure donor compliance
- Analyze performance data to improve operational efficiency
- Liaise with the Executive Director to make decisions regarding operational activities and achieving CUGH’s strategic goals
- Plan and oversee the day-to-day operations of CUGH to ensure organizational effectiveness in achieving its goals
- Oversee program and communications staff and provide constructive feedback to them
- Evaluate regularly the efficiency of business procedures according to organizational objectives and apply improvements
- Manage procurement processes and coordinate material and resources allocation
- Oversee efforts to enhance CUGH members’ satisfaction.
- Understand how IT systems can support operational systems
- Oversee the financial management of the organization. Review financial information and adjust operational budgets with the executive director to ensure CUGH’s financial stability. Work with CUGH’s outsourced financing partners to provide monthly briefs to CUGH’s Finance Committee. Arrange monthly calls with CUGH’s Finance Committee to review CUGH’s financial status.
- Invoice and manage members’ annual membership payments
- Provide accurate budgetary analysis to the Executive Director (ED) monthly to ensure that the ED has a full overview of progress against budget and control of program finances.
- Provide the ED with a monthly online update of current activities
- Manage agreements and relationships with external vendors.
- Manage funds from funders to the organization. Review proposal budgets and agreements. Ensure the implementation and maintenance of donor compliance for all financial aspects of any grants
- Under the supervision of the ED, revise and/or formulate policies and procedures and ensure their implementation.
- Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analyzing and interpreting data and metrics
- Ensure that the company conforms with laws and established regulations

- 7+ years’ experience as a director of operations or similar position with associations or a non-profit.
- Excellent project management skills
- Extensive experience in effectively managing a small team
- Extensive experience in managing financial systems and budgets
- Experience working in low resource countries or with institutions in such nations
- Experience using financial and management tools eg. MS Office 360, ERP, CRM, Member Clicks, Bill.com, IntAcct, Quick Books etc.
- Experience in grant management (application, acquisition, disbursement, tracking, etc.)
- Strong prioritization, problem-solving and customer-service orientation
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and leadership abilities
- Outstanding communication (verbal and written), team building and people skills
- Knowledge of industry’s legal rules and guidelines
- In depth, knowledge of diverse business functions and principles (e.g. finance, customer service etc.)
- Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics
- Working knowledge of global health, public health, international development or related discipline
- BSc/BA (an MBA/ MSc/MA) would be desirable in management, business administration, public administration
