Elm City Communities & The Glendower Group
Senior Vice President, Glendower Group & Asset Management
Transform Communities. Build Lasting Impact. Shape the Future of Affordable Housing.
At Elm City Communities and The Glendower Group, we're doing more than developing housing—we're creating stronger neighborhoods, expanding opportunity, and investing in the long-term vitality of New Haven. Every development, redevelopment, and strategic investment contributes to a broader mission of providing high-quality, affordable housing that strengthens lives and communities.
We're seeking an accomplished and visionary Senior Vice President of Glendower Group & Asset Management to help lead that mission. This executive leadership opportunity is ideal for a strategic, entrepreneurial leader who thrives at the intersection of real estate development, construction, asset management, and organizational leadership.
This is not a role for someone looking to manage the status quo. It is an opportunity to influence the future of one of Connecticut's most impactful housing organizations while leading a complex portfolio of initiatives that require exceptional judgment, disciplined execution, and the ability to balance multiple competing priorities without losing sight of the organization's long-term vision.
The Opportunity
Reporting to executive leadership, the Senior Vice President serves as a key architect of the organization's real estate strategy, overseeing the planning, development, construction, and long-term performance of a diverse affordable housing portfolio.
You'll provide executive leadership to senior leaders responsible for Development, Construction, and Asset Management while ensuring projects move efficiently from concept through completion and long-term operations. Success in this role requires the ability to see both the big picture and the smallest operational details—bringing together multiple stakeholders, funding sources, regulatory requirements, and competing priorities into one cohesive strategy.
The pace is fast, the work is complex, and every day presents new opportunities to solve challenging problems, build partnerships, and advance projects that directly improve the lives of residents throughout New Haven.
What You'll Do
As Senior Vice President, you will:
- Provide executive leadership for all real estate development, construction, and asset management activities across Elm City Communities and The Glendower Group.
- Develop and execute long-term portfolio strategies that strengthen organizational performance while advancing the mission of providing quality affordable housing.
- Lead a high-performing team of Vice Presidents and senior professionals responsible for Development, Construction, and Asset Management.
- Oversee the complete development lifecycle—from acquisition and feasibility through financing, design, construction, stabilization, and long-term asset performance.
- Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with financing, regulatory, and organizational requirements.
- Drive operational excellence through thoughtful planning, disciplined execution, and continuous process improvement.
- Identify opportunities for portfolio growth, redevelopment, strategic partnerships, and innovative financing solutions.
- Build trusted relationships with municipal leaders, developers, financial institutions, consultants, residents, and community partners.
- Partner closely with executive leadership to align real estate initiatives with organizational priorities and long-term financial sustainability.
- Lead with a mindset of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
The Leader We're Looking For
This role requires a leader who is equally comfortable thinking strategically and operating tactically.
You'll excel if you naturally create structure within complexity, anticipate challenges before they arise, and have the organizational discipline to manage numerous high-profile initiatives simultaneously. You enjoy bringing order to fast-moving environments, making thoughtful decisions under pressure, and helping teams stay aligned and focused amid changing priorities.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional communicator, relationship builder, and problem solver who can successfully navigate multiple stakeholders while maintaining momentum across a diverse portfolio of projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Real Estate Development, Urban Planning, Finance, Architecture, Engineering, or a related discipline required; Master's degree preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive executive leadership experience in affordable housing, real estate development, asset management, or a related industry.
- Demonstrated success leading complex real estate development and construction initiatives from concept through completion.
- Deep knowledge of affordable housing finance, real estate development, construction management, portfolio optimization, and asset management.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams while fostering accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
- Exceptional organizational, project management, and prioritization skills, with the ability to successfully manage multiple large-scale initiatives in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
- Proven ability to navigate complex regulatory environments, balance competing priorities, and make sound strategic decisions under pressure.
- Outstanding communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills with executive leaders, boards, public officials, developers, lenders, and community stakeholders.
- Strong financial acumen and experience evaluating investment opportunities, budgets, and long-term portfolio performance.
- Proficiency with technology and software supporting real estate development, construction, and asset management.
