NASW Assurance Services, Inc. (ASI) is excited to announce an opening for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). ASI is a wholly owned for-profit sub-corporation of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). While operating independently from NASW, ASI plays a pivotal role in enhancing the value of NASW membership by providing substantial benefits and financial support to its nonprofit parent through dividends and sponsorships.
ASI's business model is unique, maintaining a small, dedicated staff of approximately 14 employees, with most functions outsourced. These functions include insurance operations, accounting activities, investment management, and tax filing. ASI manages various lines of business, including Group Life & Health Insurance, Professional Liability Insurance, Risk Management Seminars, Membership Recruitment, a Captive Insurance Company, and a Risk Retention Group covering liability and property and casualty insurance lines. As an insurance agency in all states, ASI expertly handles the marketing, administration, and delivery of these products to members, generating fees and commissions.
The CEO of NASW Assurance Services will provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to ensure the organization's success in offering insurance and assurance services to social workers. Key responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of the organization, from financial management and operations to stakeholder relations and program development. The CEO will ensure alignment with ASI's mission to support and protect social workers.
Strategic planning and organizational positioning are crucial aspects of this role. The CEO will set and implement organizational strategy and direction, identifying market opportunities and differentiating from competitors. Partnering with high-level officers to ensure company growth and sustainability is essential. The CEO must maintain an understanding of current professional issues and their implications for the organization and stakeholders, providing leadership direction. Representing ASI at important functions, industry events, and public meetings is also a key part of the role. Additionally, the CEO will evaluate and respond to industry trends, advocating for policies and initiatives that support social workers.
Financial and operational oversight are fundamental responsibilities. The CEO will oversee the financial health of the organization, ensuring sound financial planning, budgeting, and reporting. Managing operational processes to ensure efficiency, compliance, and high-quality service delivery is essential. Fostering strong relationships with social workers, professional associations, donors, regulators, and community partners is vital. The CEO will ensure program quality and organizational stability through the development and implementation of standards, controls, systems, and procedures.
Effective board relations are critical. The CEO will keep the Board fully informed on the company's condition and all-important influencing factors. Helping the Board articulate its role and accountabilities and focusing on long-range strategic issues is a key responsibility. Working with Board officers and committee chairs to maximize Board member involvement and performance is also essential.
Qualifications: Candidates should possess an MBA and bachelor’s degree in business, finance, risk management and insurance, or related fields. A minimum of 15 years in various executive management/leadership roles across different businesses and industries is required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate critical competencies in commitment to results, business savvy, leading change, and motivation. A deep understanding of insurance products, risk management, and the regulatory environment governing insurance services is essential.
Skills and Abilities: Strong strategic thinking, business acumen, and results-driven leadership are required. The CEO must have robust financial management, problem-solving, and analysis skills, and demonstrate effective collaboration and consensus-building abilities. Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment are crucial, as is proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and effective use of technology.
