We are seeking a skilled Research and Evaluation Manager to join our collective efforts to create a connected and powerful nonprofit community that has the information and tools it needs to champion the public good.

Under the supervision of the Vice President of Knowledge, Impact, and Strategy, the Research and Evaluation Manager will manage the development and implementation of NCN’s new research and evaluation team, further positioning NCN as the leading voice of research and evaluation for the nonprofit sector. This is a time-limited, 2-year position.

You Are:

Essential Details:
  • Compensation: Salary range of $100,000 - $125,000, plus the generous benefits described below. This is a salaried, exempt position with an intended duration of two years.
  • Location: Our office is in Washington, D.C. and a local candidate is highly preferred, with the expectation of at least two days in-office per week.
What You’ll Do:
RESEARCH
  • Work with the Knowledge, Impact, and Strategy team to create and administer a yearly member survey. Analyze and write up state-specific reports based on survey data, providing crucial information and understanding across the sector.
  • Design and implement all phases of original mixed methods research on the nonprofit sector including methodology, data collection, analysis, and reporting, with the goal of advancing and protecting the sector.
  • Present research findings to broad audiences.
  • Maintain a research library of research reports on nonprofit organizations.
EVALUATION
  • Under the direction of the Vice President of Knowledge, Impact, and Strategy, create and implement program evaluation mechanisms across NCN’s teams.
  • Build evaluation best practices and tools that NCN’s member organizations can use in evaluating programs and projects.
  • Act as the liaison to NCN’s member organizations on evaluation questions and projects.
NETWORK LEARNING AND TRAINING
  • Coordinate bi-monthly knowledge exchanges with research and training teams across NCN’s member organizations.
  • Plan and facilitate trainings on research and evaluation for NCN’s member organizations and the nonprofit sector.
  • Work with the Knowledge, Impact, and Strategy team on webinars, network calls, and cohort exchanges for our member organizations.

What You’ll Need:
We recognize that an individual's lived experience is a valued skillset, and that people gain skills through a variety of professional, personal, educational, and volunteer experiences. When reviewing applications, we take a broad look at the experience of each applicant. That said, we are most likely to be interested in applicants who can demonstrate the following qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of related professional experience.  
  • Proven track record of conducting research and evaluation projects to inform policy and practice.
  • Expert knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data, interpret findings, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.
  • Excellent analytic writing skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, especially writing and listening, with great attention to detail.
  • Commitment to equity as a personal and professional value.
  • An enthusiastic team player who enjoys being part of a collaborative, collegial environment of dedicated and talented staff committed to shared success.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills and the ability to excel at multi-tasking and meeting deadlines while juggling multiple projects.
  • Creative problem-solver with a steadfast work ethic and sense of purpose.

For this position, the salary range is $100,000 - $125,000, commensurate with experience.
