As a Special Education Teacher, you will lead with purpose, guiding young learners with special needs through an educational journey tailored to their unique potential. You’ll create an engaging, inclusive classroom environment, turning challenges into opportunities for growth. Every lesson, every interaction, and every achievement will contribute to a brighter future for the children you serve.
- Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Special Education or Special Education
- New York State Teacher Certification in Special Education (K-12 prior to February 2004) or an Internship Certificate, Initial, or Professional Certification in Students with Disabilities (Birth-Grade 2)
- A commitment to fostering growth, inclusion, and resilience in young learners
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills
- Deliver Engaging Instruction: Use The Creative Curriculum and Prekindergarten Performance Standards to design meaningful, impactful lessons aligned with each child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).
- Create Tailored Learning Plans: Develop and monitor IEPs, write measurable goals, and provide parents with quarterly updates on progress.
- Foster Collaboration: Lead and support teacher assistants, ensuring a cohesive team approach to meet the needs of every child.
- Incorporate Evidence-Based Practices: Implement research-backed methodologies to support learning and behavioral needs in the classroom.
- Measure Growth: Use tools like The Developmental Assessment of Young Children-2nd Edition (DAYC-2) to evaluate developmental progress and adapt strategies as needed.
- Engage Families: Build strong partnerships with parents through open communication, home learning support, and school visits.
- Collaborate with Teams: Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, CPSE conferences, and ongoing professional development to ensure a comprehensive approach to student success.
